North Atlantic eddies
Lively Data : July 28, 2003
North Atlantic is an area with many eddies, even if they might not be as spectacular as in the major currents. In that zone many oceanographic studies are done, e.g. with drifting buoys (see Applications : Multi-sensors).
U, V components and geostrophic velocity vectors over a small area of the North Atlantic, on August 21, 2002. Geostrophic velocities are derived from the sea level anomaly slope, with U (zonal velocity) and V (meridian velocity) combined to give velocity vectors. The Live Access Server able to plot these variables (even if it's better not to try over an area larger than 10°x10° for vectors).
