Anny Cazenave, appointed to the annual chair at the Collège de France

Anny Cazenave, has just appointed to the annual chair "Sustainable Developments, Environment, Energy and Society" at the Collège de France. Its inaugural lecture done on 21 March 2013, described the current state of knowledge in this discipline and also presents its research program. Anny Cazenave, scientist honored with the 2012 Bowie Medal

Anny Cazenave, scientist at the French Space Agency's 'Laboratoire d'Etudes en Geophysique at Oceanographie Spatiale' (LEGOS) in Toulouse, and also a Member of the Academy of Sciences, has just received the 2012 William Bowie Medal at the American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco. This scientific prize is awarded its research work in satellite geodesy and space research in Earth sciences and Sea level rise and climate change.

Application "AvisOcean" on IPhone/Ipad

Altimetry and its renowned portal AVISO modernize and arrive on Iphone / Ipad!
An application called AVISOcean is now available on AppStore. A demonstration of this new application was made in late September at the Venice symposium celebrating 20 years of progress in altimetry. Firstly, a guided tour takes you through a virtual tour of ocean to better understand variations in the mean sea level. Then, the ocean observation by satellites and its wealth of applications are presented and illustrated. CryoSat User Workshop 2013 - Call for Abstracts

The European Space Agency is organising its Third CryoSat User Workshop, which will be hosted from 12 to 14 March 2013 at Dresden University in Germany. The workshop is open to all scientists and users with an interest in the CryoSat mission and its data products. The working language of the workshop is English. No participation fee will be charged. Participants are expected to finance their own travel and accommodation expenses.
The workshop is organised around oral and poster presentations selected by the Scientific Committee. Sessions will be arranged around dedicated topics related to the workshop objectives. Presenters of both oral and poster presentations are required to submit extended abstracts. Proceedings will be published by ESA in the SP series. The on-line abstract submission form is available on the workshop website at http://www.cryosat2013.org/. The deadline for abstract submission is 7 November 2012. Call for contributions

During the next Venice event, combining the "20 years of Altimetry" symposium and the OSTST meeting, we organize an exhibition called "20 years of Art-imetry and Models".

This event will aim at showing how science and models can be impressive and beautiful representing natural events. We already have 10 to 15 images summarizing main phenomena that occurred in the past two decades and we are searching for users or PIs contributions to complete the exhibition.

If you have research results that are nice to look at and/or that speak for themselves, do not hesitate to send an image to Aviso.
A jury will select the best contributions. They will be printed in high resolution and made part of the exhibition in the Palazzio Casino, in Venice.

In honour of Michel Lefebvre

Michel Lefebvre was first a merchant sailor, Navy captain, and astronomer, before going the Cnes to lead their Space Geodesy group. He was instrumental in designing the Doris positioning system, and in developing the Poseidon altimeter, which were launched on the Topex/Poseidon mission in 1992.
In the 1990s, Michel Lefebvre worked on a large number of international projects, and helped initiate the European operational oceanography project Mercator, and worked to set up the global GODAE programme.
